Holden Pasture Deer Lease

Holden Pasture Deer Lease – Deer Management Plan

Water at the protein stations can be very important. Feeding protein year round is a major key in our management plan. Making sure the deer have plenty of water to go with the protein is just as important. We have added water stations in the areas we do not have nearby ponds. Supplement feed has become a very important tool for us raising big deer on the Holden Pasture Deer Lease. For years I just thought supplement feed was there to keep deer alive, now I realize how a good powerful feed combined with water can make such a difference in growing monster bucks and keeping a healthy herd.

Our bucks have increased in bodyweight and antler growth dramatically since switching to Double Down Deer Feed. Feeding DD year-round has us very excited about this coming season!

Holden Pasture South Texas  “Youth Weekend”

11 year old Mario Lerma “Munch Man” took this cool droptine buck Saturday evening hunting with Brett. The buck was injured on his back leg. The break did not appear to heal and the deer was having a tough time. The drop was measured in 5 of the deer contest at 11 2/8s to 11 4/8s. One happy young man! Here is a picture of Munch Mans buck. I’ll post the link to the video as soon as it’s up

Another big low fence South Texas buck shows him self early in the season. This buck has a beautiful 11 point main frame with about 20″ of storable brow tines, a really nice “tweener” and a kicker on his left G2. One of our lease members has decided to pass the buck this season after watching him 3 hunts in a row at 10-20 yards with his bow hoping to find a bigger one. We have watched this buck for 3 seasons now. With extreme drought conditions threw out the year, once again we feel the feed “deer protein” we are using has to have something to do with the great horns we are already seeing this year on the Holden Pasture! I will be back at the ranch in the morning pretty much for the remainder of the season. I’ll post up more pictures as we get them!
